God offers many subtle and clear references concerning the expected Savior through the prophet Isaiah. The details recorded in chapter 53 may be among the strongest. As we consider them, let’s remember that they were written 700 years before Christ’s first advent.
“We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:6
In the midst of the wealth of information about the longed-for Redeemer, Isaiah declares that every human heart sets itself up in rebellion against the Father’s authority. Thankfully the prophet continues with the rescuing words that the accumulated sinfulness of the world will be borne by the Redeemer. Can we imagine what a load that would be and the price to relieve it?
